Love Lustres at Calvary

Here's a Good Friday prayer taken from The Valley of Vision:

"My Father,

Enlarge my heart, warm my affections, open my lips,
supply words that proclaim 'Love lustres at Calvary.'
There grace removes my burdens and heaps them on thy Son,
made a transgressor, a curse, and sin for me;
There the sword of thy justice smote the man, thy fellow.

Christ was all anguish that I might be all joy,
cast off that I might be brought in,
trodden down as an enemy
that I might be welcomed as a friend
stripped that I might be clothed
wounded that I might be healed,
athirst that I might drink
tormented that I might be comforted,
made a shame that I might inherit glory
entered darkness that I might have eternal light.

My Saviour wept that all tears might be wiped from my eyes
groaned that I might have endless song,
endured all pain that I might have unfading health,
bore a thorned crown that I might have a glory-diadem,
bowed his head that I might uplift mine,
experienced reproach that I might receive welcome
closed his eyes in death that I might gaze on unclouded brightness.
expired that I might ever live.

Hi Gret, It is so easy to gloss over the realness of God's plan even while doing good works for Him. How wonderful His love to us.....DAD

Would you believe that I read that very prayer in our Good Friday Service last evening. I love the Valley of Vision. We use it often in our corporate worship as well as in our family worship.
This particular prayer is so stark in its contrast. It puts me on my knees.
Peace,

sorry Gret--all the easter candy is gone-joking. Boy was it different (but fun) having Daniel and Ross over this Easter. We missed you and Josh at the Mill. And can I just tell you how ADORABLE the children were when we were telling the Easter story this morning?? I mean, Elijah, MADDIE, so so so cute, and being good. They mostly all are, except well, when telling on each other. :) Oh, and Jeff and Melanie were at church..did you know they have 2 kids? They have a baby boy too.

Happy Easter!

I love your post. Our God is good. Will be very glad to see you again. You and Josh are a bright spot to me. Your mother and dad are doing well, and the girls are growing up to be lovely young ladies. Miss Emily though. The nursery is full ALL THE TIME. Kids from everywhere. A lady got saved thru the Great Commission Mission out of Westville. PTL. Love and prayers for both of you. From Fran and Mike Reese.
